John Q. Anderson papers, 1848-1993 (bulk 1953-1973).

This collection of files, correspondence, printed material, photographs and audio tapes illustrates the literary career of John Q. Anderson, focusing on the research and publication of "Brokenburn: The Journal of Kate Stone, 1861-1868," and "Louisiana Swamp Doctor: The Life of Henry Clay Lewis." Papers also demonstrate Loraine Anderson's assistance in the research and her participation in the study of folklore. To a lesser extent, papers reflect the personal lives of Anderson and his wife, Loraine. Correspondents include LSU Press, local historians, friends, and colleagues. Of particular interest are Loraine Anderson's notes on Huey P. Long (file 20) and the letters of Amy J. Holmes, daughter of Kate Stone. Her letters comment on racial integration during the 1950s and 1960s, the assassination of John F. Kennedy, and Earl K. Long's hospitalization after a public scandal. Also present are papers reflecting the Andersons' involvement with the Texas Folklore Society, and Loraine's research material.
